The Gators (7-6) won their bowl game for the fourth consecutive year, ending a disappointing season in coach Will Muschamp's first year with the school.
UF's special teams helped it get the win as Andre Debose had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Senior Chris Rainey set a Florida and SEC record with his sixth career blocked kick, which freshman LB Graham Stewart returned 14 yards for a touchdown.
The game also included Deonte Thompson's first receiving touchdown of his senior year, six sacks by the defense and three turnovers by the Gators.
With the loss, Ohio State fell to 0-10 vs. SEC teams in bowl games. The Buckeyes beat Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl last year but later vacated the win and the season after an NCA investigation. They finish at 6-7, suffering their first sub-.500 season since 1988.
Florida led 14-10 at halftime after each team had a receiving touchdown and Ohio State scored a late field goal. Florida got on the board first as John Brantley found Thompson for a 17-yard catch late in the first quarter.
After each team lost a fumble in the final minute of the first quarter, Ohio State got a receiving touchdown to start the second quarter. QB Braxton Miller found DeVier Posey for a five-yard touchdown pass less than four minutes into the second quarter, capping an eight-play, 72-yard drive.
Debose?s touchdown came later in the second and was his third career return of more than 88 yards after scoring touchdowns on kickoffs from 88 yards (vs. LSU) and 99 yards (vs. South Carolina) in 2010. Ohio State scored in the final minute before halftime with a 47-yard field goal from Drew Basil.
Florida scored on Rainey's blocked punt in the third quarter and added to its lead with a 17-yard field goal from Caleb Sturgis to start the fourth quarter.
The game kicked off with the man who has generated the most storylines this week not in attendance. Former Florida coach Urban Meyer said he?ll be watching the game from his home in Gainesville while interim Ohio State coach Luke Fickell coaches his last game.
Meyer will take over at Ohio State after this game, with Fickell remaining on his staff.
