Will i lose weight following this exercise?health and fitness experts ...

i do interval runnning for 25 minutes 4 days a week. usually 1min 30 secs running and 1 min walking and repeat. after wards i do like 15-20 pushups and like 40 situps because im extremely tired after running and some pull ups some times. i eat kind of healthy. in the morning i eat yogurt in school a granola bar or school lunch when i get home a banana or maybe a sandwich or cerial and for dinner usually rice and chicken or plantains. i weigh 182 im 16 years old and 5 foot 10. 2 weeks ago i was 187 pounds because my metabolism was all messed up cause i never ate breakfest and had like 2 big meals a day and stuff. so do you think i will lose weight and how much do you think i could lose in a month and i also only mostly drink water with the exception of milk for cereal.i got alot of fat to lose not that much but around legs and i saw a little results the day after i started this exercise schedule and thanks

Get 40 minutes of cardio (walking, jogging, swimming, etc). That?s how long it takes to burn fats properly.
I?d also mix up your routine a bit. Do weight training and cardio M-W-F, increase flexibility and strength T-Th (yoga and pilates is great for this).
If you eat properly and work out 3 times a week you can lose about 2lbs of fat a week.
Don?t look at the number on the scale, but instead look at the changes in your body. You may actually GAIN weight as your fat is replaced with muscle, but it?s good weight.
You can?t target fat loss from one area, either. Fat is burnt evenly around the entire body. You can, however, target muscle building.

US Cellular made it known that it would be accepting pre-orders of the Samsung Galaxy S III this upcoming Tuesday (with the device shipping sometime in July), but it left the pricing a mystery to keep us all in suspense for at least a few days. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Aaron Harang got his 100th career victory as Los Angeles overcame a two-run, sixth-inning deficit, and the Dodgers won 8-3 Thursday to complete their first four-game sweep at the Philadelphia Phillies in 66 years.

Harang (5-3) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings, improving to 100-98 in 11 big league seasons. The Dodgers had not swept a four-game series at Philadelphia since Brooklyn accomplished the feat from May 24-26, 1946, according to STATS LLC.

Cole Hamels (8-3) led by three runs early and 3-1 in the sixth when he walked Elian Herrera leading off. Juan Rivera singled and, one out later, James Loney singled to cut the deficit to one. Tony Gwynn Jr.'s single tied the score, and Matt Treanor's single on a broken-bat flare to left put Los Angeles ahead 4-3.

Philadelphia has lost a season-high six straight and has the NL's worst home record at 12-19.

Hamels, who had been 3-0 with a 1.18 ERA against the Dodgers in his career, gave up four runs - three earned - and six hits in six innings with six strikeouts and a walk.

Los Angeles added four runs in the ninth against Chad Qualls. Herrera hit an RBI grounder with the bases loaded that second baseman Mike Fontenot booted for one of Philadelphia's three errors. Andre Ethier stopped an 0-for-16 slide with a two-run double, and Jerry Hairston Jr. followed with an RBI single.

Philadelphia took a 3-0 lead in the third following throwing errors by Alex Castellanos in right and Herrera at third. Hunter Pence hit an RBI grounder as Herrera threw wildly to the plate, Ty Wigginton had a sacrifice fly and Mike Fontenot a run-scoring bloop single.

Wigginton, starting at third base in place of injured Placido Polanco, misplayed consecutive grounders by Herrera and Juan Rivera starting the fourth, leading to Hairston's sacrifice fly.

NOTES: The Phillies recalled INF-OF Michael Martinez from Lehigh Valley to fill the roster spot vacated when 2B Freddy Galvis was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a lower-back strain. ... The Phillies open interleague play Friday night in Baltimore, with Joe Blanton (4-6) opposing Jake Arrieta (2-7). ... The rally started early and gathered force in the afternoon. The charge turned the Dow positive for 2012 and erased the biggest loss of the year less than a week after it happened: the 275-point plunge set off by a dismal U.S. jobs report on Friday.

The Dow gained 2.4 percent to close at 12,414.79.

The big jump follows weeks of losses. Hope that European officials would find ways to ease the region's debt crisis helped launch the rally. News reports said Germany and European Union officials were considering a plan to lend money from the European bailout fund to help rescue Spain's hobbled banks.

Jeff Kleintop, chief market strategist at LPL Financial, said the market appeared to be turning on rumors and speculation. But the chatter was enough to convince some traders that the worst was over for now.

As of Monday, worries about Greece and Spain had pulled the Standard & Poor's 500 index down nearly 10 percent from its peak in early April. "The next 10 percent move is not down, it's up," Kleintop said.

LPL has started to pull back on bets against the S&P 500 and the euro. "We've decided it's time to declare victory," Kleintop said.

A speech by a Federal Reserve official also added to speculation that the Fed may take more steps to bolster the U.S. economic recovery. Dennis Lockhart, president of the Fed's Atlanta regional bank, says weak job growth over the past two months highlighted the "halting and tenuous" recovery. If the trend continues, "further monetary actions to support the recovery will certainly need to be considered," he said.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will likely be asked about more actions to help the economy when he testifies before a congressional committee on Thursday.

Companies whose stocks have been clobbered the most over the past month had the best gains. Homebuilders rallied, helped by a strong earnings report from Hovnanian Enterprises and rising applications for new mortgages. Hovnanian's CEO said he sees signs that the housing industry may be entering the early stages of recovery. The Mortgage Bankers Association reported that applications for mortgages rose 1.3 percent last week, largely a result of more people trying to refinance their existing loans.

Hovnanian leapt 18 percent. PulteGroup Inc. surged 7 percent and Lennar Corp. 4 percent.

The gains were spread across the market. Only 11 companies in the S&P 500 dropped, and every industry group in the index rose, led by energy and financial companies. Roughly seven stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock Exchange.

Jim Russell, chief equity strategist at U.S. Bank Wealth Management in Cincinnati, Ohio, said it's natural for the market to have a strong day after an extended beat-down. On such days, it's usually the companies that were hit the hardest that fare best.

"In market language, it's called a technical bounce," he said. "There's no bad news today, so the market goes up. Frankly, it's that simple."

U.S. markets followed major European indexes higher. Indexes rose 2.4 percent in the U.K. and France. Borrowing costs eased for Spain, another positive sign.

In other trading, the Standard & Poor's 500 rose 29.63 points to 1,315.13. The Nasdaq composite rose 66.61 points to 2,844.72.

A Federal Reserve survey showed growth across the country. Hiring was steady, according to the Fed's "Beige Book." That's in marked contrast to the government's monthly jobs report, which said employers added the fewest jobs in a year last month.

The dollar dipped and Treasury yields rose as investors moved money out of defensive investments. The yield on the benchmark rose to 1.64 percent from 1.57 percent late Tuesday.

Among stocks making big moves:

? Morgan Stanley jumped $1.08, 8 percent, to $13.94 amid reports that the Blackstone Group and other private equity firms may try to buy a stake in the bank's commodities business.

? UnitedHealth Group gained $1.66, 3 percent, to $57.70 after the health insurer said it will raise its quarterly dividend from 16 cents to 21 cents per share . The board also approved a plan to buy back stock.

? Tempur-Pedic International plunged $21.28, 49 percent, to $22.39. The mattress maker said it expects quarterly profits to fall by half compared to last year. Tempur-Pedic blamed its competitors' aggressive marketing campaigns and promotions for hurting its sales.

How plants make cocaine

Humans encounter alkaloids every day, they constitute a very large group of natural nitrogen-containing compounds with diverse effects on the human organism. A large variety of plant-produced alkaloids have strong pharmacological effects, and are used as toxins, stimulants, pharmaceuticals or recreational drugs, including caffeine, nicotine, morphine, quinine, strychnine, atropine and cocaine. Atropine, used to dilate the pupils of the eye, and the addictive drug cocaine are both tropane alkaloids which possess two distinctive, inter-connecting five- and seven-membered rings.

Plants commonly produce tropane and other alkaloids for protection against herbivores and other enemies. Species in seven plant families are known to produce tropane alkaloids, including the Brassicaceae (mustard family), Solanaceae (nightshade or potato family) and Erythroxylaceae (coca family). These families are not closely related to each other. For example, it is assumed that the last common ancestor of the Erythroxylaceae and the Solanaceae lived about 120 million years ago. But how similar are the tropane alkaloid biosynthetic pathways in these families? Was there a single original tropane alkaloid pathway which was lost in most other plant families during the course of evolution? Or, did tropane alkaloid biosynthesis arise independently on several different occasions?

Atropine and cocaine: Two tropane alkaloids, two plant species, two different enzymes

John D'Auria, project leader in the Department of Biochemistry at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, has been studying the coca plant, from which the drug cocaine is derived. Native tribes in South America have been cultivating coca and chewing its leaves for at least 8000 years for their stimulant and hunger-suppressing properties.

Although the formation of cocaine has not been investigated in the last 40 years, the biosynthesis of the related tropane alkaloid, atropine, from belladonna (Solanaceae) is well-established. In the penultimate step, a ketone function is reduced to an alcohol residue. This key reaction is catalyzed by an enzyme of the short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR) protein family in belladonna. Among this group of enzymes are also many alcohol-degrading dehydrogenases in animals.

To find the corresponding enzyme in cocaine biosynthesis, Jan Jirschitzka, a PhD student in the group, searched the genome of the coca plant to look for SDR-like proteins. However, all the SDR genes that he cloned and expressed did not show any activity for the key reaction in cocaine formation. So he used a more classical approach ? identifying the cocaine-synthesizing enzyme activity in extracts from coca leaves, purifying the responsible protein, isolating the polypeptide, and ? after partial sequencing ? cloning the corresponding gene.

Cocaine in young leaves, atropine in roots

"We obtained two very interesting results," says Jonathan Gershenzon, director at the institute. "The enzyme reaction analogous to that in atropine synthesis ? the conversion of the keto group into an alcohol residue ? is catalyzed by a completely different enzyme in coca plants as compared to that in the Solanaceae, namely by an aldo-keto reductase (AKR)." The enzyme was named methylecgonone reductase (MecgoR). AKR enzymes are known in plants and also mammals, amphibians, yeast, protozoa, and bacteria. They are involved in the formation of steroid hormones, for example. The second result is that the MecgoR gene, as well as the protein, is highly active in the very young leaves of coca plants, but not in the roots. Atropine, on the other hand, is synthesized exclusively in the roots of belladonna, from where it is transported into the green organs of the plant. Based on these results, the Max Planck researchers conclude that the tropane alkaloid pathways in coca and belladonna evolved completely independently.

Elucidation of the MecgoR-catalyzed step in cocaine biosynthesis represents a major success, but the researchers are now continuing to investigate other important steps in the cocaine pathway. Also of interest is to learn how cocaine is stored in leaf tissue in such high amounts. This alkaloid can account for up to 10% of the dry weight of the immature coca leaf, a phenomenal amount for the accumulation of any one particular alkaloid. [JWK/AO]

The space shuttle prototype Enterprise moved to its new home Wednesday, the flight deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum on the Hudson River in New York.

NASA's three real space shuttles ? the ones that rocketed into orbit ? also will spend their retirement in museums.

One is already on display. The other two will follow by year's end.

A quick look at each ship:

Discovery: Flown in April to Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia, taking the place of Enterprise. Fleet leader with 39 missions. Oldest survivor of the real shuttles. First flight in 1984, 39th and last in February-March 2011. Spent 365 days in space, traveled 148 million miles.

Endeavour: Still at Kennedy Space Center. Will be flown in September to California Science Center in Los Angeles. Youngest shuttle, built as replacement for the destroyed Challenger. First flight in 1992, 25th and last in May-June 2011. Spent 299 days in space, traveled 123 million miles.

Atlantis: Still at Kennedy Space Center. Will be transported down the road to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in November. First flight in 1985, 33rd and last in July 2011. Spent 307 days in space, traveled 126 million miles.

Enterprise: Flown in April from Smithsonian to New York. Prototype shuttle used in five approach-and-landing tests at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., in 1977; dropped off back of modified jumbo jets with two-man astronaut crews and guided to landings. Never flew in space nor was it designed to do so. Used in NASA tests and traveling exhibits, then given to Smithsonian in 1985.

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ? You may think you?re covered if you have health insurance, but Consumer Reports wants you to think again.

You can easily be socked with huge bills, which is what happened to one woman after her son ended up in the emergency room.

When Christine Knopp?s son, Brendan, got a deep cut on his face, the emergency room doctor offered the option of a plastic surgeon for the stitches.

The surgeon?s bill was $2,900. Christine had assumed her insurance would cover the surgeon, but that was not the case.

?We were pretty shocked. We had no idea that that was going to become our responsibility,? Knopp said.

The problem was that, while the hospital was in the family?s insurance network, the plastic surgeon who stitched up Brendan was not.

Consumer Reports said one of the most common causes of medical sticker shock is going out-of-network.

?A PPO plan might say that it will pay 60 to 80 percent of out-of-network care. That does not mean it will pay 60 to 80 percent of the actual bill, though. It means it will pay 60 to 80 percent of what the insurance company thinks the test or treatment ought to cost,? Nancy Metcalf from Consumer Reports said.

Consumer Reports found lots of examples of patients being hit with astronomical bills, including one woman who was charged $480,000 for back surgery.

?Bottom line, stay in your network. If you must go out of network, research ahead of time what your insurance company will pay,? Metcalf said.

It's official: Twitter kills Queen's English

Purportedly finding itself increasingly irrelevant in an age of 140-character Twitter speak and text abbreviations, the unofficial British guardian of proper English is calling it quits. OMG! #language

The Queen's English Society, which has caviled at writers', politicians' and entertainers' "misuse" of the language for 40 years, is disbanding at the end of the month, its chairwoman, Rhea Williams, announced in a message to members, The Independent reported Monday.

(Befitting the organization's traditionalist bent, Williams insists on being called "chairman.")

Williams sent the notice after the society was able to muster only 22 people to attend its annual conference, which ended with no candidates' having stepped forward for chairman, vice chairman, administrator, webmaster or membership secretary.

The society ? whose punctuation guide alone runs to more than 6,000 words ? is famous for having taken on the language and speech of the most powerful and popular personalities. Those include?BBC announcers, whom it has derided for speaking in their own local accents instead of the plummy English known among academics as Received Pronunciation.

Firmly taking sides in a disagreement that has helped to define modern linguistics studies, the society declares that "we prefer the prescriptive approach to the descriptive approach, as we do not want the language to lose its fine or major distinctions."

But "things change, people change," The Guardian quoted Williams has having said about her decision to announce the society's death. "People care about different things. If you look at lots of societies, lots of them are having problems."

British reports blamed the speed of modern communications.

The Guardian concluded that the society had "finally conceded it cannot survive in the era of textspeak and Twitter." The Daily Mail also blamed Twitter, but it added "contracted spellings and Americanisms" to the list of culprits.

In fact, the Queen's English Society has ruffled many feathers over the years with its Olympian pronouncements on the proper way to speak and write. It has?particularly annoyed educators, whom it?blames for fostering "permissive" approaches to teaching English, whether it is because they "are not able to correct poor English" or "do not have the time to do so."

Such attacks attract opposition, which is exemplified by the existence of Anti-Queen's English Society, a group founded by English academics to counter claims that "English-which-isn't-the-Queen's is culturally and intellectually lower." As its name implies, the A-QES opposes everything the Queen's English Society stands for, calling its members "archaic perpetuators of linguistic prejudice" and dismissing its research as "laughable."

The Queen's English Society rejects such criticism, contending that it "encourages rich and imaginative English where appropriate, as in poetry, drama, fiction and some non-fiction."

Gyles Brandreth, a former Conservative member of Parliament and broadcaster who is a patron of the society, suggested that such disagreements prove that many people still passionately care about English.

"The Queen's English isn't under threat," Brandreth told The Independent. "Her Majesty can sleep easy. The language is still in the good hands of all the people who speak good English."

Odd twist in China stock index evokes crackdown

SHANGHAI (AP) ? China's share benchmark has fallen afoul of the country's Internet censors by appearing to mark the 23rd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown on pro-democracy protesters.

In an unlikely coincidence certainly unwelcome to China's communist rulers, the stock benchmark fell 64.89 points Monday, matching the numbers of the June 4, 1989 crackdown in the heart of Beijing.

In China's lively microblog world, "Shanghai Composite Index" soon joined the many words blocked by censors.

In another odd twist, the index opened Monday at 2,346.98. That is being interpreted as 23rd anniversary of the June 4, 1989 crackdown when read from right to left.

Public discussion of the Tiananmen crackdown, which the Communist Party branded a "counterrevolutionary riot," remains taboo. Analysts refused to comment on the numbers.

Officials at the Shanghai Stock Exchange were not available for comment.

On the popular Sina microblog site, searches using "June 4", "64.89", "stock market", and "benchmark Shanghai Composite Index" were all blocked.

Such searches draw the response, "According to law such words cannot be shown."

That prompted some users to comment on the "magical" nature of the market, while others groused about not being able to discuss the stock market online.

In Beijing, the anniversary passed without any major sign of protest. The front page of the party newspaper People's Daily trumpeted the "Stable, fast development of the Chinese economy: Advancing to be the World's No. 2."

The melee as soldiers fought their way into Beijing to clear Tiananmen Square is believed to have left hundreds dead. In response to the violence in the capital, demonstrations erupted in more than 180 cities and in some cases were quelled violently.

The government has never provided a credible accounting of the number of victims or arrests in the sweeping crackdown that followed.

Asked at a regular briefing if the government had changed its stance regarding the "June 4 issue" Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said, "I just knew you would ask this question."

"The political case you mentioned was concluded long ago by the ruling party and government," he said, objecting to a U.S. State Department call for a reconsideration of the party's stance as "rude interference in China's internal affairs."
